Welcome
to the October issue of AWCH Child and Adolescent Health
E-news.
There
have been a number of very exciting developments for AWCH
recently.
AWCH
Accommodation
As you
know, we have been looking for suitable accommodation for
AWCH since 2003 when National Office was temporarily housed
in the homes of Rowena Sebastian and Anne Cutler. The great
news is that NSW Health has offered AWCH the opportunity
to lease some rooms at the Gladesville Hospital in Sydney.
The site is a beautiful one with frontage onto the Parramatta
River, many historic buildings and landscaped gardens with
the accommodation providing room for two offices, storage
and a kitchen - all of which will have to be cleaned and
painted!

I would
like to take this opportunity to thank Robyn Kruk, Director
General of NSW Health and Bart Cavelletto, Program Manager,
Statewide Paediatric Services NSW Health, for their continued
support in providing accommodation for AWCH. How fantastic
is this!

AWCH
Library
The
AWCH Library has found a home at the Children's Hospital
at Westmead www.chw.edu.au/site/directory/entries/medlib.htm
. Interviews for a part-time temporary librarian position
are taking place as we speak and a Steering Committee is
being set up to plan for the partnership between the AWCH
Library and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. One of
the main tasks for the committee will be to seek funding
for a permanent part-time AWCH Library position which will
be crucial to the continued functioning of the AWCH Library.
As an example of what a unique resource the AWCH Library
is, I would like to share with you a recent enquiry to National
Office about the need for information on child friendly
nursing uniforms. The enquirer had searched nursing and
medical databases without success for the relevant literature
to support a case for child friendly attire. AWCH was able
to provide 14 articles and contacts of people who had either
trialled child friendly uniforms or were already using them.
Adolescent

like to take this opportunity to invite you to the 5th Annual
Australian and New Zealand Adolescent Health Conference

AWCH Goals
The
AWCH Executive is holding monthly meetings during 2006-07
to discuss how to progress AWCH priorities, its strategic
plan and advance its mission, which is to support and advocate
for the improved health and wellbeing of infants, children,
young people and their families. A number of key goals have
been identified which will build on the recommendations
of the AWCH 2005 Survey Report www.awch.org.au/2005_AWCH_National_Survey_Report.htm
.
Goals:
The
AWCH National Board will be meeting on 23 November to discuss
these goals and strategies for implementation.
With
warmest regards,
A/Professor
David Bennett
