Ward Grandparent Scheme

Training Day and Thank You Lunch
Our Annual Hospital Ward Grandparent Scheme Training Day and Thank You Lunch was once again held at AJ's Cafe at Westmead.

Sandra Pengilly, Head of Play Therapy Department at the Children's Hospital at Westmead provided some ideas for our ward grandparents to use when visiting special needs children. We had lots of laughs as she let us play with some of the toys she brought along. She even had everyone singing a nursery rhyme.....no we didn't serve any alcoholic drinks!!!!

Susan Khanna, Social Worker at the Children's Hospital at Westmead spoke about the impact of working with seriously ill children. The issues raised and experiences shared by our ward grandparents proved very valuable to our new volunteers.

Prof David Bennett, our very talented President, entertained everyone with a piano rendition before thanking our tireless and dedicated volunteers and new ward grandparent badges were handed out afterwards. We hope to give all our volunteers who were unable to attend this year's training day the new badge early next year.

Once again, our deepest thanks to our ward grandparents. Your dedication provides a much needed and appreciated service to children and families in hospital.
