AWCH Ward Grandparent Scheme

The new Ward Grandparent Scheme at Campbelltown Hospital was launched on 12 March 2008, with our president, David Bennett representing AWCH at the launch. Two articles in local papers resulted in over 50 enquiries about volunteering with the Scheme; thirty information packs were sent out; one ward grandparent has commenced and five applications have been received! More enquiries are coming in and Campbelltown is busy preparing for the training sessions of the appointed ward grandparents.

Campbelltown-Macarthur Advertiser article

The process of setting up the Scheme with AWCH involvement is a good example of consumer and professional partnerships resulting in a very well prepared program of volunteering and the opportunity to raise AWCH profile in both the community and the health service.

Our ward grandparents at The Children's Hospital at Westmead were recently given a pampering by Woman's Day magazine in recognition of the wonderful work they do for children and families. The article appeared on the magazine on 03 March 2008 and highlighted the wonderful work and dedication of the ward grandparents.
