The Department of Health and Ageing has engaged Australian Medicines Handbook Pty Ltd to conduct the Paediatric Pharmaceuticals Prescribing Resource Project. The project involves the development of evidence-based paediatric dosing information, in the form of a paedatric dosing resource containing the most commonly used medicines in Australia for children and young people from birth to 18 years of age. Please promote this project by circulating the Fact Sheet to your networks or organisation. You may wish to consider reproducing the fact sheet in your member newsletters or affiliated publications.
The Association for the Wellbeing of Children in Healthcare celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the AWCH Hospital Ward Grandparent Scheme.Our Patron, the Governor-General of Australia, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO hosted an afternoon tea at Admiralty House, Kirribilli on 10 October 2012. The afternoon tea was enjoyed by ward grandparent volunteers and staff from all the NSW hospitals that have the Scheme. Read all about it here.

Part of this project involves an online survey of individuals 17 years old or younger (focussing on young people aged 10 17 years of age) with the aim of gathering information about their attitudes and behaviours regarding medicines and medicine use.

AWCH attended an event in Sydney’s Martin Place on February 29th that marks World Rare Disease Day 2012.

AWCH attended the Youth Health2011 – It’s Totally Important Conference in November in Sydney. The conference ran over 3 days and was a wonderful mix of professionals and young people coming together to discuss youth health.
AWCH jointly hosted a pre-conference workshop which had a morning session discussing the rights of young people in healthcare and the standards required to protect those rights followed in the afternoon with presentations and discussion about training and workforce development in adolescent healthcare.

AWCH organised an event to promote Mental Health Month by taking our Hospital Ward Grandparent volunteers and office volunteers on a Fish 'n' Ships tour.
The event showcased the importance of volunteering and its benefits to support and enhance a person’s wellbeing.
