Who Cares? The 1996 Conference focused on before and after the hospitalisation of children. Changes in the delivery of health care incorporating preventative medicine, early discharge, "hospital in the home" and community programs, have altered the focus of child health care away from a hospital based model. The role of the family in maintaining and supporting the child’s health and in providing for their emotional needs during health care treatment is pivotal. How do we support families with children who are acutely or chronically ill? How do families and health professionals work together to co-ordinate the many factors in supporting a sick child in the community? When hospitalisation is necessary, how well are children and families prepared for admission and discharge? To obtain a copy of the conference proceedings, please contact AWCH. |
